J.17 = H.1. This technique can be used also for tight hamstrings.

Longitudinal leg traction

Straight leg raise or tight hamstrings


  • Pain with, or restriction of, straight leg raise
  • Pain that does not radiate below the knee on SLR


  • Maintain traction force throughout range
  • Add hip abduction/adduction or internal/external rotation to improve SLR
  • Perform only three repetitions one day one, but when using this technique for tight hamstrings, more than 3 repetitions on day one are allowed
